FAQs about hotels in Southampton

Historic Port of Walls

Departure point for Isle of Wight ferries and grand cruise liners including the Queen Mary 2, Southampton is understandably centred around its port. But even if you’re passing through, the city has more than enough to make you want to stay awhile. The Hythe Ferry from the port passes Netley, site of a ruined abbey, and ends at Hythe Pier, home to the world’s oldest pier train.

There is much older history in the city centre where the 15th-century city walls are amongst the most complete in England. Also remaining is the medieval Bargate gatehouse.

Just behind is the Bargate Shopping Centre, while high street stores in the city centre and West Quay are other Southampton shopping choices. As for entertainment, the city is well served by theatres, and Oxford Street has the best bars and restaurants. All are easily reached from the apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Southampton available on Booking.com.

There is also a surprising amount of green space in the city and its central parks are Grade II-listed. Slightly further out is Southampton Common, whose Urban Wildlife Centre is worth a visit.

If you’re flying out of Southampton Airport, don’t leave without having visited the Maritime Museum or Archaeology Museum, both detailing the history of this long-established city.

I liked the park that was near where I had a cooked breakfast. The shopping centre was very good. I also did a walk showing the history of Southampton. I was unaware you can get a ferry to the Isle of Wight which would be fun. I did not have time for anything else.

Loved walking around the old walled city. Very beautiful!

Loved walking around the old walled city. Very beautiful! The Taney House was great as was the Maritime museum. Met a very nice local gentleman that pointed out several things to us and recommended we eat at The Red Lion. It was so good! We also went to the Duke of Wellington's for a beer. really quaint! If we ever go back, I would like to eat there. There are also some very nice shopping centers near the old town. We found it very easy and enjoyable to walk everywhere we went.Mayflower Park is lovely and seeing where the Titanic sailed from was amazing! We also enjoyed beers at The Dancing Man Brewery.

I really had to wonder why under ‘things to do’ in Tripadvisor it advised Bournemouth and Winchester? After an afternoon in the centre it was all clear. Pavements were filthy, fighting in street and although very sad so many drug addicts and homeless.

Our staylocation was near Oxford Street, many restaurants. We tried Miss Pita (Greek - good), OXOX for breakfast (good) and curry restaurant (good). City is walkable even with a mobility problem. Wonderful closed off street with shopping and restaurants, also historic sites. Visited the Titanic museum, ticket included a walk through of a Jane Austin exhibit. We will return to Southampton for a longer visit.

We explored the medieval values and the ancient wall. Fascinating. If we had more time we woukd have seen more. We bought some delicious donuts and brownies at the market stalls.

What a find! So happy we found this beautiful home! They had literally thought of EVERYTHING! Beds super comfortable, everything clean and inviting. Kitchen fully equipped, even has a coffee machine and an Alexa. We'll definitely try and book again next time we're in Southampton... we were there to go to The London Hotel and it was literally about a 3 minute walk! Perfect 👌 Also the communication from the booking agent was top notch, fully informed at every step, checking everything was ok and easy to contact if you need anything.

Very clean environment cleaner than some hotels. Mostly quiet. Was nice to have access to a kitchen and a fridge. I was able to cook a breakfast on the last morning and I used kitchen utensils which were provided. The shops were not a long walk and they were near the station and a bus stop leading into town centre of Southampton.

The room was very nice, I would say that from my experience of Premier Inn hotels this hotel room was slightly smaller than theirs but still a very comfortable size and I would even say it was better quality and significantly cheaper.
