I was in Manchester on business but would definitely spend time there for pleasure. Relatively small city with lots to do in the city centre. Be careful though, like all cities it has it's undesirables. Good choice of food (Rudy's is great for pizza) and some nice hotels. Manchester is an interesting city. It has a contemporary vibe and appears to be growing rapidly. It felt a little like Frankfurt (DE) with its juxtaposition of old-world charm and 21st Century architecture. The only thing it lacks is public green space - although the canal network could provide this with development investment. We stayed in Manchester to see a concert at the Opera house, so stayed a couple of nights to explore the area and do some shopping. Manchester just seems to have random stuff everywhere, without and sense to the layout. The shops were standard high street shops and were expensive The bars and restaurants were also very expensive and there were far too many, until we wanted a late beer and couldn't get one after midnight We made use of Weatherspoods a couple of times for food, as they were affordable There were homeless people on every block, far too many people in the centre and a lot of the area smelled of drugsGuest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Manchester is okay but trying to find some nightlife without paying through the roof to end the door was a bit ridiculous. The one place out at was O'Malley's pub. The food was great.
