I was in Manchester on business but would definitely spend time there for pleasure. Relatively small city with lots to do in the city centre. Be careful though, like all cities it has it's undesirables. Good choice of food (Rudy's is great for pizza) and some nice hotels. Manchester is an interesting city. It has a contemporary vibe and appears to be growing rapidly. It felt a little like Frankfurt (DE) with its juxtaposition of old-world charm and 21st Century architecture. The only thing it lacks is public green space - although the canal network could provide this with development investment.
