It is located 10 km from Loch Ness, along the mouth of the Ness River and the Moray Firth coast. It is regarded as the northernmost city in the United Kingdom, and capital of the Highlands.

Inverness is a fantastic city, compact and easy to walk around with a good selection of shops. Everyone is welcoming. I'd recommend the Ness Walk and Islands. There are some great restaurants, that do early bird offers. I also did a Loch Ness day tour which was good. Unfortunately i didn't have time to do any other tours. As a solo traveller I felt quite safe walking around Inverness. The Castle was still being restored, but that's on my to do list next time.Guest review byWendyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I was with my 9yr old daughter so we didn’t see much except the cinema (Vue) and Whin Park and Leisure Centre. All of which are fine and well worth a visit and very close by. The river Ness which runs right through Inverness is very picturesque. We highly recommend the Ness Island mini Railway and the boating pond which are both in Whin Park. The kids playground there is very good and has recently been replaced with new apparatus. There’s a good cafe there too.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0
