Location Friendly and accommodating staff, nothing was too much bother. Clean hotel, even smelt fresh as you walked the corridors. Great upgrade. Food was excellent in the evening and such a beautiful variety of breakfast options. Breakfast was delicious. Heating in room and a heated towel rail.

An amazing place to stay to celebrate a family birthday. Such a beautiful property for our reunion, with stunning communal spaces downstairs for everyone to gather together. The main reception room has plenty of seating and is equipped with a fully functioning TV. The kitchen is well stocked with everything required to cater for a large group, with a dining room to use to enjoy meals in a gorgeous setting. The bedrooms are fabulous, and decorated perfectly to make our stay feel even more special. The location was excellent too, and perfect for outdoor activities for all the mixed ages of the group. The youngest ones explored the local Castlewellan area and lake, forest, playground and Peace Maze, while more accomplished hikers took advantage of the close proximity to the Mourne Mountains. The house is also just ten minute drive to the charming coastal town of Newcastle, and there are ample shops nearby. Michael was a great host, and on hand from the start to get us set up and offer advice on local area. He really went above and beyond to accommodate us and we can't thank him enough for his help in making this a memorable trip for us all. We couldn't recommend Annsborough House more.

8years since my last visit home and first to the inn with family from England. Drove past the Dundrum Inn for years and never visited but now we have it will be a go to destination. Very warm welcome despite being late due to Storm Amy. Bedroom was spotless and warm. Tea, water and coffeee were very welcome. The bathroom was large and the shower was superb. Boiling hot water anytime of the day, a nice touch was the retro fittings in keeping with the buildings age and character. The bed was so comfortable that we were torn between just staying there or going to the restaurant and bar. The food was fantastic. Breakfast was a choice menu. All cooked superbly and very tasty. Served each morning by Tom who dealt with any requests from allergies to a pint of Guiness with a relative's fry! Family dinner was perfect. Everyone received their meal at the same time, perfectly cooked and hot. Food quality was excellent using local produce. The restaurant prices were very good and service perfect even with multiple parties in the place. Do not miss out on the bar next door. Live music and very good attentive staff serving. Do try the Guinness.

Castlewellan is perfectly placed to explore the forest park,...

Castlewellan is perfectly placed to explore the forest park, complete with peace maze! tollymore, silent valley and the seaside of Newcastle. There are some lovely scenic drives with plenty of pubs along the way. In the town there are some goods bars and restaurants, Maginns, Hillyard House both serve excellent food that is also good value and there are various takeaways too. Mourne Archery is a great activity whether in a couple or family group we had a wonderful time and Katy the instructor made the whole thing fun and informative, especially shooting at the balloons.

This is a friendly town with lots of amenities. If you turn right out of the hotel (which is in a side street) there are beautiful walks in castle grounds and a walled garden which is being renovated for reopening in the autumn. All around you are the beautiful mountains of Mourne. A trip to Newcastle will show you where 'the mountains come down to the sea' in the words of Percy French.
