The Inspiration for Genius
Open-plan and open-minded, Cambridge is best known for university colleges dating to the 13th century. King’s College is the most popular, and its chapel choir is internationally famous. Although accessed from cobbled King’s Parade, it is best viewed from a punt on The Backs, the part of the River Cam behind.
Cambridge punting is an institution and gives great views of Queen’s College Mathematical Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs at St John’s College. Upstream is Jesus Green, site of an outdoor pool and a fantastic beer festival. Next to this is Midsummer Common, a park home to the annual Strawberry Fair (and the occasional cow). Opposite are the college boathouses - get up early to see the rowers in action!
Cows also roam the Mill Pond meadow, where the river leads south to Grantchester, a quaint village with a lovely cafe. Places to eat in Cambridge include riverside restaurants and typical English pubs like The Eagle, drinking hole of DNA founders Watson & Crick.
Cambridge shopping options include a daily market (in Market Square), the Grafton Centre and the exclusive Grand Arcade, the latest addition. The Scott Polar Museum and free Fitzwilliam Museum are 2 of many fantastic Cambridge museums.

The Fitzwilliam Museum is stunning and we need to go back to it, superb. Kings College Chapel is World class too. The city was gorgeous and felt very safe. The people are very friendly and it was such a nice trip. So much to see and do and we loved it. Great places to eat and so many outstanding attractions. Anyone who has not been to this beautiful city please go, treat yourself. The Fitzwilliam is the best museum/art gallery outside London. Go for a punt on the river, very relaxing. Cambridge is a nice place but is very expensive and very touristy. The bus services are good providing you get a good bus driver and it's also good enough to walk around if you stay in central hotels. Gorgeous historic buildings, fabulous food. Visited the botanical garden, well worth the 8.50 pounds entry fee. We had paid 22 pounds each for the Sea Life Aquarium at Hunstanton the day before and it was nowhere near as enjoyable. A beautiful city and lots to explore, along the River Cam, great market too. Review of My 5-Day Stay in Cambridge I recently spent five days in Cambridge for a business trip, and it turned out to be a perfect mix of work and exploration. Business Side: The city is very business-friendly, with plenty of cafés and co-working spots where you can catch up on emails or hold informal meetings. Wi-Fi was generally reliable everywhere I went, and the train connections to London made commuting easy when needed.
