Sea Air and Savoir-Faire
Known for its sandy beaches and good nightlife, Bournemouth is a popular seaside resort on the Dorset coast between Poole and Christchurch.
The town is centred on the Bourne River, running downhill towards the sea by Bournemouth Pier. This pier looks back towards a promenade lined with beach huts at the foot of grassy cliffs. The promenade continues west to Poole, while a road goes east to neighbouring Boscombe, where anglers often fish from its pier. Overlooking it is a clifftop road housing some Bournemouth hotels with sea views.
Booking.com also offers hotels near the BIC – Bournemouth International Centre in the West Cliff area. This convention centre and music venue is a short walk from the Art Deco Pavilion Theatre, located next to the Lower Gardens. In this popular city park is the Bournemouth Eye, a tethered hot air balloon that offers far-reaching views.
At the park’s top end the river disappears under a large square, then emerges in the Central Gardens. Overlooking these gardens is the Victorian town hall, which used to be one of several spa hotels in Bournemouth. Opposite is a Grade I-listed church, and St Peter’s Church has the grave of Mary Shelley, author of ‘Frankenstein’.
On the outskirts of town, near 4 golf courses and the Castlepoint Shopping Centre, is Bournemouth Airport.

The beaches were the cleanest I’ve ever been to. It was such a shame that the weather was not very good, so everywhere we went to was quick as it was cloudy and windy and we were cold. Also sometimes places look so much nicer when it is sunny and it gets you in the mood of exploring more.Fortunately the day we got there we had a bit of sunny weather so managed to have a swim. Alum chine garden was nice to explore. To be honest I just went there for the beach. There is plenty to do: museums, big wheel, beach, sea, aquarium, shows, restaurants and cafes. The only problem is parking; there is not enough close to the beach and it is incredibly expensive! Consider going by bus or train (although it is quite a walk from the train station) The beach is lovely and there is a long promenade walk along side the beach huts, although there is some development work at the moment so there is a slight diversion.Guest review byJacobsUnited Kingdom
