Beside the Seaside, Beside the Sea
A favoured holiday spot since the Victorian era, Blackpool is a traditional English seaside town. Amusement arcades and crazy golf courses line the promenade and dotted between them are plenty of places to pick up fresh fish ‘n’ chips and Blackpool rock.
On the 5-mile sandy beach, children can enjoy Punch and Judy shows and donkey rides. Old-fashioned entertainment at its best. At the other end of the scale is the Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a fairground complex comprising a variety of rides, including The Big One - once the world’s tallest and steepest rollercoaster. They actually had to get permission from nearby Blackpool Airport to erect it!
More seaside pursuits are on the town’s 3 piers, one of which is Grade II listed. However, the most recognisable landmark is the Blackpool Tower which houses a circus, 4D cinema and a world-renowned ballroom, to name a few. Modelled on the Eiffel Tower, it is spectacularly lit during the annual Blackpool Illuminations, when the whole town is bathed in bright lights. The trams plying the prom are also lit. Look out for the one shaped like a ship.

It would be great if more people would visit Blackpool to boost its economy It’s got so many things to offer at a smaller cost than the cities that have the same (dungeons, Madame Tussaud’s, sea life centre etc) plus all the great arcades and a beach! Parking and driving round the centre is no problem Illuminations are as wonderful as ever I hadn’t been to Blackpool for decades, since I was a child and decided to take my owl kids who absolutely loved it! What can I say about Blackpool that everyone doesn't already know? It's Blackpool. It's a run down seaside resort with plenty to see and do. There are good transport facilities so getting around isn't much of a problem. It caters for Hen and Stag do's so it is nearly always busy. I have visited Blackpool many times before. It was busy on this visit due to the illuminations just starting. I've been coming to Blackpool since I was a little girl, so many memories are held here and I've always found excuses to come back. Blackpool has so many activities, piers to visit, fun fairs, and shops, even a market. So many arcades and gift shops for everyone. So many takeaways and dessert places to visit. I have always liked Blackpool from being very young. Of course the place has changed a lot, but still find it a pretty good place to go. This time as a birthday treat from my wife. The switching on of the illuminations was the highlight of the stay. But,, to say that the low point of the trip was the hotel that I had chosen didn't deter from the town and activities offered. Love the day rider tram and bus rides. Just a pity that we couldn't ride the tram all the way through the lights on the Friday night.
