Peruse the official website for this city, also think about tourist visit passes including bus and metro. We arrived in Paris on September 1st. The city is huge and is not crowded at this time. But it was a little rainy. The French are polite and fun. Oh la la ! They speak English very well and they are willing to guide you. Everything here is quite expensive, the restaurants, entrances. But is an amazing city witch is worth visiting. I came across a number of Parisians who ignored me completely when I asked for directions. Then there are some who are nice. More Parisians should learn to speak English especiallly the ones who work in the metro. Surprisingly, a lot of Metro workers don't know some places, don't understand their own map!!!! I had not been to Paris in some 20 years.
I had not been to Paris in some 20 years. I had never stayed longer than three days, so I decided to go for eight nights and stayed for ten. It probably would have been better with eight because over the last two days, I shopped too much, and the exchange rate from the Euro to the Canadian dollar is painful. I loved my room at Hotel Duminy. The woman who came to clean every morning was so adorable. I don't speak Ukrainian, but we spoke with our eyes. I wanted to bring her home so she could clean my house. The staff at breakfast were a morning ray of sunshine, and the Reception staff were precious, helpful, and always so kind. It was so clean and well-appointed that they scrubbed the outside sidewalk. I love that. Paris has much cleaner streets than my hometown of Calgary. The Parisians have pride. It was wonderful going to the Foundation de Louise Vuitton Musée to see the last 25 years of David Hockney's work. Of course, the Musée Orsay and the Louvre never disappoint, as well as the singing floating bowls installation at the Bourse de Commerce. But to my delight in the Marais, there is a new (of 10 Years) Picasso museum. The collection was outstanding!!!! The building is magnificent. It was once a grand old hotel. But best of all, it is not crowded with hordes of people with no history of art under their caps. The visiting exhibition by Anna Maria Maiolino was exquisite. I am so lucky to learn about this artist. Lastly, I was not to encourage all travellers to use the Metro. It is very easy to navigate, clean, and Safe. From Hotel Duminy, you will probably travel mostly on the Yellow line, which is the best. From the hotel, you use the Tuileries station to get to the Marais, and get off at St Paul's. It's so easy. One word of warning: avoid a store called @MajesticFilaturesDeluxeTeeshirts. I was grossly ripped off, and once I realized it, they would not refund my money.
