The Abbey, although largely a ruin is nonetheless remarkable and well worth a special trip to this small, historic town which is easy to walk around and has a lot of charm. The history is well explained in English as well as French and gives a good impression of the Abbey’s great past. Terrific small town in Burgundy with a good selection of restaurants and amenities. I did not have time to properly explore some of the sights and the heritage of the town as my stay was en-route to my final destination. It was a little way outside Cluny itself - easily walkable in principle, but unlit after dark. The view across the fields to the Abbey and the Burgundy hills was idyllic, but a little restricted from the bedroom itself.
