The Blossoming Costa Brava
Sweeping around a sandy bay backed by mountains, the fishing port of Roses has become one of the most popular Costa Brava resorts. This was partly due to El Bulli, one of the world’s best restaurants, which once graced a neighbouring village.
Although that restaurant serves no more, the town still has plenty of eateries and bars offering some of the area’s top nightlife. Some are by the long promenade whose palm trees are beautifully silhouetted at sunset. Around the Bay of Roses the headland becomes more rugged and the beaches more cove-like. In the opposite direction is large Roses marina, although the one in next door Empuriabrava is huge.
Watersports are very popular here and include diving and windsurfing. The Aqua Brava waterpark has a host of slides, rapids and a wave pool, and other entertainment includes karting and minigolf.
Above the southern end of town, overlooking the lighthouse, sit the star-shaped ruins of 16th-century Castell de la Trinitat. On the other side of Roses is the Ciutadella, a much larger site containing Greek and Roman remains and partly surrounded by medieval walls. Even older are the Creu d’en Corbertella megalithic structures, one of which is the largest in Catalonia.

No parking, it's like winning the lottery. People were very friendly. Very hot in August. Beautiful sea line, sunsets are amazing. To get to Cap Norfeu took us three times to get there, so my advice- come early because it closes at 10.30 and reopens at 16.30. Citadel of Roses is an interesting place, but the best to visit it afternoon because it is very hot at noon. Near Citadel is a free parking. We like Rosa’s this was our 4th visit in 8yrs Best restaurant for us was puerto rica fish dishes amazing . The most colourful paella I have ever seen , absolutely fantastic flavours Also recommend the whole turbot cant wait to return . The promenade was marred by lunatics on electric scooters ,and street hawkers ,which are supposed to be illegal and heavy fines. Also youths setting off bangers to annoy tousists and locals alike. We have visted Roses in our motor cruiser when travelling along the coast from France down to Barcelona and we love it. Of course there are many ports along the route who are also very welcoming but Roses has a special place in our hearts as we had our honeymoon here. For us it was a chance to visit as land based tourists. To get the very best of your holiday we recommend that you do your homework in advance so that your holiday coincides with local events like the summer solstice which add vibrant colour to your holiday and you can make some lovely memories to cherish forever.Guest review byGeoffFrance - 10.0

It is a lovely part of Spain. Plenty of restaurants along the sea-front promenade. Everywhere is walkable. Lovely bay with view of mountains. Lovely sea - clear and clean and remains shallow for a good distance.Guest review byJo
