Our stay was magnificent; we knew it was a traditional hotel but it combined modernness and vintage views; the common areas were always clean and maintained; the staff was really helpful and nice. It was all about details they would leave us nice notes in each meal, coconut water in the room each day, and overall such a nice vibe. We loved it, we were a couple, I'm pregnant and it was my boyfriend's birthday and they gave her a cake it was so special. Breakfast was AMAZING! The pool area is very relaxed and the garden also very nice

Glorious Beaches for Surf Dudes and Socialites

Once a destination for surf dudes, Florianopolis now also rides the tourism wave of chic nightclubs and beach parties. Located just off the coast of southern Brazil on Santa Catarina Island, you can choose from over 40 perfect beaches.

The island is joined to the industrialised mainland by the Hercilio Luz Bridge. On the island side, south of the centre is Praca XV de Novembro square. It is reached by a tree-lined boulevard that includes beautiful Catedral Metropolitana.

The northern area of the city centre features a promenade outlining the historic streets of Beira-Mar-Norte.

The northern beach of Jurere is party central with many nightclubs pandering to Brazil’s emerging wealthy set. Further south on the east coast are Joaquina, Campeche and Mole beaches, a more traditional surf and youth culture with many oceanfront bars scattered along the shore.

    The safest "big" city in Brazil (state capital), it has everything you may want, combines nature and beaches with city life and culture. August was a bit cold still (15C during the night, 20C during the day), and a bit rainy. But I believe September would be the perfect time to visit. November until March is where the city is crowded with tourists, and June to August is the real winter. So either April/May or September/October is ideal.

    Florianópolis is a very large city spread out all over the island. Centro is convenient but fairly boring. The north is much more fun and touristic. The south is more calm and nature oriented. The east is relaxing low traffic and great beaches for surfing and less busy than the north. The north side has more areas characteristic of rio beaches with vendors and rentals everywhere (plus crowding). The east has less of that. The food is better outside of centro

    Nice downtown, unfortunately surrounded with big highway. But the carnaval a downtown was great. Rest of the island is perfect, we visited Mosambique beach, Lagoon and had great time here. Boat trips, trails in jungle, monkeys and other local animals, perfect. In jungle are some poisonous snakes, so it's good to watch under feets ;). Very nice vacation, we will come back

    The beaches are outstanding although if you are visiting...

    The beaches are outstanding although if you are visiting during the high season, be prepared for lots of traffic on the roads and plan accordingly. The islands infrastructure is inadequate for the number of visitors, and there are traffic jams galore. But all in all, it's well worth the visit and if you are an oyster fan, you found your spot.

    Florianopolis as a whole was great.

    Florianopolis as a whole was great. Wouldnt stay in Praia Brava beach again, but others were wonderful. Antares Club Beach Hotel!! a big yes. Ponta Das Canas, Canasvieras, and Ingleses Norte, all yes. All nice beaches, restaurant's,, shops, markets etc.

    I've been in Florianopolis 3 times: one with my best friend...

    I've been in Florianopolis 3 times: one with my best friend for a week, one alone for a few days and this last one alone and for only one night. There is always a lot to do and see and time always seems to be short. It is a very safe capital in a third world country, many tourists always around and nice people everywhere. Good food too! The public transportation works very well, with easy connections with only one ticket and you can go to the north and south of the island even in one day if you wish (although it takes some time to go...). You have options of more modern and developed beaches in the north, and more savage and untouched nature in the south. I like this combination and to have many possibilities. I personally dislike the city center, where you can see more homeless people and some crowd. In the summer time it is always packed wherever you go, so I try to avoid this time of the year. Honestly, so far, Florianopolis is my favorite Brazilian capital! :)

    The location is superb; it's practically downtown the Rodoviária (bus station) is almost across from the hotel, and it's very near the Mercado Público, where you can go shopping for souvenirs or simply grab a beer. From just outside the lobby, there is a great view of the bay and the lovely Hercílio Luz bridge. Also, they have a collective of restaurants and bars right next door, called Armazém Rita María, which is quite lively and slightly upscale. The staff was quite friendly and helpful.

    Our room was modern and immaculate. The staff were very friendly and gave us local recommendations. The hotel has direct access to a beautiful beach. The hotel has chairs and parasols and will deliver food and drinks to the beach. We also enjoyed the breakfast. All in all, an excellent stay!
