An interesting city with lots of history. Most of what tourists would like to see is contained within a relatively small area, but be warned there is a bit of climbing. Plovdiv is a great city.
Plovdiv is a great city. I love history and there is so much here - we will need to come back to see it all! Going to a concert at the Ancient Theatre was magical, and both the ethnographic museum and the archaeological museum were superb, not to mention the Bishop’s Basilica. But Plovdiv is also a contemporary city with excellent restaurants and bars, with a special mention for the Offline Cafe board game cafe, which gave us a really warm welcome. This is an intensely historic and fascinating city.
This is an intensely historic and fascinating city. The Roman ruins are very well preserved and there is much to see and do. The people were friendly and hospitable, and there are a wide range of restaurants, cafes and bars to shelter in when the sun is hot and your feet start to ache. I travelled in November so there were few guests. Th hotel is located in the center of the old town, which is by car only accessible for people who live there and hotel guests. The roads in the old town are made of square rocks which makes it difficult to walk on for elderly people and impossible for a person with a disability.
