We spent just one night at the York Palace, and were delighted with the accommodation. Nola and Richard were warm, friendly and extremely helpful hosts - it was a pleasure to meet them. We stayed in one of the heritage rooms and it was spacious, clean and very comfortable, with a lovely balcony looking out into the town. We would have been very happy to stay longer, and York is a charming little town, with lots to see and explore.

This Hotel used to be Cobb and Co stage coach Hotel. Very old. Famous also for the 1st Police outside of Perth to bunk here. The above statement is important as it was the 1st Town outside Perth with Police. Gold Gold found ,further North. The Rooms were a perfect size. Very good bed. Air-conditioning a must here in our warm seasons. Perfect with small items,Fridge,Microwave Kettle, Toaster. Best of all for me, NO WiFi . The staff were very nice. Everyone koves a chat and a smile. I would highly recommend this Establishment. I will return there again and soon.

The Lodge is in a quiet location and was perfect for me. The lookout is around the corner from where you have a 360 degr. View over the area. Paul and Jeanette are wonderful hosts. I felt like home straight away. They also provide you with everything what you need and more. I would choose their place again.

York would be a great place to stay for a few days if aware of when it was open. Be aware and don't go Monday to Wednesday as few shops on the Main Street are open. Unfortunately, we arrived on a Monday. The only places to eat was a cafe (breakfast / lunch) and one pub (lunch/ dinner). The IGA and info centre plus a very few shops were open. The sock factory was disappointing as simply a shop to buy - nobody demonstrating or explaining the process. There was a very short film but no sound so you didn't know what was actually happening. It closed at 3pm. The one pub being the only place open to eat Monday night was packed and we waited an hour to get our meal. (No fault of theirs, they were run off their feet!).

    Great place to visit.

Great place to visit. Very clean the people were friendly and the buildings were old and magnificent. Several pubs for good food and a lovely cafe for breakfast. Definitely visit the Flour Mill for yummy home made scones jam and cream. Also very nice coffee..

We love the heritage buildings in York and walking around the town is always a friendly experience. There are numerous walking trails and places of interest. The lookout, Sock Factory, Museum, Emporium, specialty shops, hotels and eateries are some of the places we have visited.

YORK, you think you have gone way out into the countryside...

YORK, you think you have gone way out into the countryside to a small Town. But I was only 1.5 hours from Perth. This is a very historic Town, and there are many fine old buildings standing and dating back to the Gold Fields Rush days. Even though I went in 'the so called Winter in W.A" , I walked around mainly. Chatting with people, most very friendly. Even the many Govt Workers who do Road Works and Power-Line stuff and stay at the Town hotels were a reasonable bunch, no drunks to be see. The food places area treat, Go 1st to the Visitor center, they can provide you with the best eateries at differing costs, as well as the recommended days to see the many and varied sights in the Town and the surroundings. I use York now as an R&R or a quite place to recharge my Batteries, You only need 3 days. But a week is a better stay for a 1st visit. LOVED YORK.

York provides all needed amenities, within easy driving distance of Perth, without the hustle and bustle of a larger regional town. An ideal staging point for exploring this part of WA. Easy access to Beverly and Northam for gliding, hot air ballooning, etc.

We found York an easy place to walk and peruse the shops but also go further afield. We took our bikes which worked really well. Our evening meal was at the hotel next door and the food looked delicious but the service was too long - an extra busy night we think.

Stayed in a very large room upstairs. Heating good, Hot water for a shower takes a while to come through the pipes and is good when it arrives. The rooms a decorated according to Pioneer families that first settled in York. I had the Burges room and on the walls are photos of some of the old timers. Furnished according to style of building. Tea and coffee provided. Dinner in the restaurant excellent, I had seniors roast dinner good size meal, gluten free options available. Hubby had steak burger and the size was huge.

The hotel section is accommodation only, right in the middle of town, so a great location. Settlers dining room/bar is a separate building in front of the accommodation, right on the main street. Ensuite rooms were comfortable with a mini bar fridge for snacks and drinks. I have stayed in a lot of country WA accommodation and Settlers is 'top quartile'. Some good quality, quirky breakfast options along the main street.
