FAQs about hotels in Darwin

Australia's Cyclonic Cocktail

Darwin displays a cocktail of cultures from ‘Aussie larrikins’ to the local Aboriginals from Larrakia Country. Throw in an influx of international visitors who now call the Top End of Australia home, and this concoction bedazzles with busy outdoor markets and an adequate supply of drinking holes (pubs).

The modern Darwin Wharf precinct, including Stokes Hill Wharf, still gleams on those endless summer days having been rebuilt after the destruction caused both during World War II bombings and Cyclone Tracey. Grab a bar stool with a view of the harbour or a seat on a terrace and sip a cool drink in Australia’s northernmost, tropical capital city.

A popular time for tourists is Darwin’s dry season that starts in May and ends in October. If you prefer it hot and humid, then the end of the wet season can be spectacular when the waterfalls in Kakadu and Litchfield national parks are at their mightiest.

Australia’s wild frontier can be reached all the way from Adelaide and Alice Springs along the picturesque Stuart Highway that ends at Daly Street in the CBD. Outside the centre are the natural surrounds in Palmerston, Humpty Doo and closer by is Mindil Beach with its famous Sunset Market.

Darwin International Airport has international flights from Singapore and Bali. You can choose from a variety of hotels, hostels and apartments on Booking.com.

We loved everything about Darwin it is very easy to get around. So much to see and do and the weather was beautiful. We went to the Croc Jumping which was great as we had never seen them in their natural environment before. Found so many beautiful restaurants to dine at, Pee Wees at the Point, Il Piatto Italian, Meraki Greek restaurants just to name a few. The weather in August was beautiful and watching the sunsets from the beach were spectacular. All in all we had a fantastic time and will definately be back..

Lovely, quiet city with great places to visit. Loved the friendliness of the people, and the how laid back the place was. We were there in the dry season, and the weather was excellent. It was easy to get around, and we had a great time seeing sights using the double decker hop on/off bus.

Darwin is a great winter get away option during the dry season over June, July and August. You could stay within the city limits if it's just warmth, a swimming pool, urban green spaces, some nice coastal walks and decent food your after. The best thing about Darwin is it is the gateway to some amazing outdoor places to visit that are not far away - Litchfield National Park and Kakadu being top priority. You'll need a hire car to make the most of it although you can take various day and multi day tours from Darwin. It's not a bargain holiday destination but no where is within Australia. Darwin is also the capital of the NT which has amazing diverse landscapes and strong Indigenous cultural presence. There are opportunities to engage with Indigenous tourism activities, especially in Kakadu National Park.

The bar/pool tender, front of house staff and grounds men were exceptional in their friendliness and helpfulness. The housekeeping staff were lovely but we had a few minor communication problems. The reception area, pool and gardens were excellent. We appreciated the laundry facilities. The location was superb. The hotel is right on the water and easily accessible to bus terminus, Parliament House, the waterfront, Darwin Hotel, tourist agency etc.

Spacious and comfortable apartment. Host very accessible (we ran out of dishwashing liquid and quickly replaced). A family member decided to join us for a couple of days and while there wasn't a bed for them we were left extra sheets for the couch. Amazing view of Darwin Harbour and sunsets. It's in the Oaks Elan complex so restaurant on site and staff at desk helpful also. Given the price of accom in Darwin this was good value.

Apartment very comfortable, clean and roomy for a 1 bedroom unit. Suited our needs as we enjoyed 2 Days at Darwin Turf Club and exploring around Darwin City. Right on the edge of city, close enough to walk around the CBD and down to the waterfront, but also very quiet. The size of the 2 bedroom apartment was perfect for us (2 adults and 2 children) and having a washing machine made our time easier. The pool is smallish but the children had fun playing in it. Will definitely be back to stay again next time I’m in Darwin.

The hotel was conveniently located, an easy walk to both the centre and Darwin Waterfront. It had a wonderful pool. The rooms and the beds were comfortable, there was a fridge and a sufficient supply of coffee and tea and milk. There was also a large Woolworths supermarket just across the street. And the parking was free which was excellent as we had a hire car.
