I had to stay close to Dandenong Hospital.
I had to stay close to Dandenong Hospital. The location was perfect for that and there were shops within walking distance. I enjoyed the Dandenong Marketplace which was close. I would not recommend walking around Dandenong after dark. I made sure I was back at the hotel before dark for safety as there were some shady characters around the area. FOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dandenong is a culinary paradise! We visited the Dandenong Market which is fabulous for clothes and fresh food shopping and had dinner at the Afghan Hayat restaurant which was incredible. In between we went on the Puffing Billy train which was incredible fun. The next day we visited Buddhist temples in nearby Springvale and has lunch there also. I love Dandenong! Dandenong is a multi-cultural blend and so many different types of food around. The place itself is pretty easy to navigate, and as far as places of interest, the Dandenong market is a must visit - an enormous selection with something for everyone! I have been to Dandenong a couple of times and found it to be a nice place to visit but wouldn't stay as it does have it's reputation for a lot of violence. A multicultural south eastern suburban township located about 35-40km from the CBD of Melbourne. Either you need a car or be able to afford Uber, otherwise getting around can be a challenge.
