The locals are friendly and helpful.
The locals are friendly and helpful. From a culinary perspective this is one of the best places in Austria - the Slow Food movement is at home here and you can get fantastic yet affordable local specialties (we got here in time for the "Knödel Wochen" at the Steineckenalm). The landscape is incredibly beautiful and ideal for hiking, with many levels of tour difficulty. The locals were more accurate than hiking maps in advising which paths are best for ascent/descent (like from the Obergailalm Lake up to the Mittagskofel)! We hope that the Lesachtal region soon recovers from the bark beetle plague - right now it's better to hike above the tree line.Guest review byKimberly

The very large apartment boasts two balconies overlooking a small church and the mountains. Freshly renovated, it had everything you could possibly need: comfy beds and pillows (I am very sensitive about this), crisp linens, and everything impeccably clean. My only regret is that we couldn’t stay there any longer. There’s a nice country bar just around the corner, and the hotel nearby serves a good breakfast. Nice landlord.
