Choice of dining, quality of food and service was excellent. Spotlessly clean throughout. Enclave check in process was a nice touch.

In general the service is good. I want to highlight Isamar in the coffee shop, Teófilo in the Il Palco restaurant and Tony, a bar supervisor at one of the pools.

Enrique, his wife and all the staff were extremely kind people, they were always there for anything we needed. Also, the breakfast was awesome, tasty and the amount of food for a breakfast was stunning.

I stayed with my nephew at Catalonia Bayahibe for 6 nights between 31st Jan - 6th Feb. The hotel is located in Bayahibe - La Romana, one of the most beautiful areas of DR and probably the best beach: Caribbean crystal clear water and clean smooth light brown/white coloured sand ( NO sargassum at all here! ). The hotel is located about 45 min to 1 hour drive (depending on traffic) by car or taxi from Punta Cana airport). We were welcomed at the reception with a cold refreshing drink and the check-in process was smooth and informative! After that we were guided to our Privileged Deluxe Room with amazing view of the gardens. The room clean and modern with all basic amenities. They welcome you with a bottle of DR rum as a present and french macarons! All the drinks inside the fridge are free and are replaced daily if consumed. There is also water bottles for teeth brushing since the tap water should be avoided. The room is cleaned quite often and the towels are changed daily. The pool, the beach and the restaurant areas are all beautiful and well maintained. The gardens are amazing and perfectly preserved. The sunbeds are separated according to room type/hotel section but most of the other facilities are used by all guests equally. For some restaurants (dinner) you need to book a day or a couple of days ahead but for the main buffet (breakfast-lunch-dinner) you are free to enjoy with no booking. Everything is all inclusive: food, sallads, snacks, desserts, fruits, drinks, coffee, water etc. There is lots of food variety of good quality and taste. There are also bars/cafes to grab something to eat or drink. There is also a place serving crepes of your choice close to the beach. Water and ice provided by the hotel (even when not bottled) is safe to drink. Beach towels you get everyday from the personal close to the pool. The thing that people wake up early to secure their sunbeds by leaving their towels is true.

I can see why this hotel is 5 stars, its the little details, all the staff will say hello to you, yes there are a few that dont speak good English but they will always try and help, they even put their "catalonia" logo in their smoking sand every morning. The beach is about a 7 minute walk from reception area and is beautiful but people are not wrong when they say you have to get up at 6am to reserve a decent spot. We had heard of other places in the dominican having serious seaweed issues and there were zero here. We went to see the fish in the corals which was wonderful. Food at the Peruvian restaurant was incredible. Only downside is if you dont book somewhere to eat for the night you will end up just getting room service with a very limited menu. We did find a lot of things out later on in the holiday as no one explained anything except where the beach was, we weren't sure on what services we could use or which part of the beach to use etc. We got some form of bug which had us being sick for 3 days and had no idea they had medical supplies at the shop which would've really helped. The room was incredible, slight issue with water pressure but nothing big and everything was clean. We wanted to take Esther the cleaning lady home with us, she was just a vibe. So welcoming and lovely and even came to say goodbye when we left. Another staff shout out is for the woman who works on the "non adults" side at the beach bar, she was always happy to see us and exclaimed "palm beach!" (My drink of choice) every time we went up and was full of smiles. Overall we had an excellent time and we will definitely be back. The friendly staff counteract the rude guests and the scenery is just incredible.

This was my 5th visit at this hotel, the first being in 2002, when the resort had just opened, and my last one 10 years ago. The rooms are now renovated, as well as the bathrooms, which were updated to the current standards. The entire area has developed quite a bit, there are now shops nearby and places where you can spend time. When I was there last, there was nothing around the hotel. Now it's a small village with inner roads and dozens of small shops and small hotels. The port is now 5 minutes away just east of the resort, so it is easy to leave and arrive for/from excursions. The best restaurant in the resort is still the Gheisha (japanese). The kids loved the stay and can't wait to get back :)
