Ernesta and Irwin were the best, they were kind and thoughtful and even brought us to a neighborhood party which was an amazing experience. The food for dinner and breakfast was some of the best we’ve had in Flores, and the room was clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed staying here and felt like we were a part of the family. We were sad to leave.

Ruteng (1.2 miles from Ruteng Airport)
Situated in Ruteng in the East Nusa Tenggara region, De PO'ONG has a garden. This property offers access to a terrace and free private parking. We were the first guests at this accommodation, and Peter and his whole family treated us wonderfully. They made everything easy for us and were very attentive. There are still a couple of small details to finish, but the stay is pleasant and it has everything you need. It’s a pity we couldn’t go see the sunrise from their rice terrace.
Ruteng is so much more than a pit stop on the long journey between Bajawa and Labuan Bajo. It has spectacular scenery, many things to visit and a vibrant local culture. I particularly enjoyed being driven around the area, watching the sun rise over the rice fields, going to the cave where the bones of Homo Floriensis were found and having a picnic by a beautiful waterfall. The local traditions, including the division of land by the spiderweb method, are fascinating.
Higly recommended to everyone who wants to really enjoy the Ruteng and surrounding area, Waerebo village included (you can get there by motorbike). Ino and his family are awesome people, willing to help you with everything you need or want. You really become the member of the family. I would definitely come back if I visit Flores again. Breakfasts are so delicious and different every day (Im vegan and they prepared special meal for me, but I felt like a queen), beds are so comfy, they have hot shower, you can chill out at the garden or in the shed where you can also cook by yourself. They will give you valuable information and recommendations on places you should visit.. and there is much more. In the end, we are speechless, this stay exceeded our expectations.
A very dirty, busy city. Easy to be run over and huge holes in the sidewalks. Best not to stay here. There are no restaurants. To see the Spiderweb Rice fields it is best (if traveling by car) to just stop there on your way through (takes maybe 1/2 hour) and continue on
