Located less than 1 km from Puerto Villamil Beach, Suite Golden Beach offers accommodation with a patio. The photos are accurate, the place is exactly as shown. The place is always perfectly clean and fresh. The beds and pillows were by far one of the most comfortable beds we’ve slept in after several months of travelling. The AC worked great in the room. Shower had good pressure and hot water. Towels were changed every 2 days. Room was made every day. Key is provided for the room and the front door. The location is quiet and about 10 minutes walking to the centre or port. The host is always around to answer questions and provide recommendations. Also big plus was the snorkel gear provided free of charge (Cressi brand too!) Would stay here again!

Located in Puerto Villamil and with Puerto Villamil Beach reachable within 500 metres, Hotel Sula Sula provides a tour desk, non-smoking rooms, a garden, free WiFi and a terrace. Sula Sula is a familiar hostal. It is simple, but very comfortable. Our room was very big, a lot of place to put the luggage and to hang clothes. Bed was comfortable, shower worked very good and air conditioner worked very good too. The windows have protection against mosquitos, so you can leave the windows open and get natural light. The wifi doesn't work very well in the room, but it works very good at the reception and there are a place with sofas also to use the wifi. The room was clean and the whole hostal was always clean, even though the streets in Isabela island are dirt streets. Julio and his family are super nice and welcomes you as family. Julio arranged tours for us, that were very good, kayaking and los tuneles, for a better price than other agencies. He also gave us tips where to rent the best bikes and what we shouldn't miss. He also arranged for us the boat to Santa Cruz. There is water for the guests to refill our water bottles and the breakfast had everything we needed: fruit, yogurt, eggs, tea, bread, jam. Check-in and check-out was so smooth, we got our room by the time we arrived and could stay until the time had to leave for the boat. Everybody on Isabela Island is so friendly and easygoing. We loved our stay at Sula Sula and can't wait to go back!
Isabela is a backpacker's destination with very poor infrastructure and low level restaurants. And it's extremely expensive for a European, especially if you come from a non Euro-country given the appreciation of the USD. We struggled to find a decent restaurant and it turned out that the Mexican was the best (full every night). To give you an example of cost, a main course was between USD19-30 which in eg Spain would have been aprox USD8. Price/quality ratio is among the worst we've experienced. Ecuador, especially the islands, is a cash only-no receipt-economy with the purpose of squeezing the last dollar out of the tourists. We left with few intentions of returning which is a shame given the amazing animals and nature. People are mostly very friendly and helpful which was a nice.
We enjoyed traveling beyond Santa Cruz Island for a few nights, just to experience the "vibe" of a different island. The town of Puerto Villamil is relaxed, very friendly and a charming beach town. Most of the area is walkable, though taxis were very cheap (less than $5).
We enjoyed Isabel Island the most of the three Islands we stayed at. Fantastic wildlife. The sunrises and sunsets, long beach walks, Los Tunnels Tour, bike rental, trails, tortoise natural reserve, plenty of shops for fresh fish and produce, plenty of restaurants with delicious food, panaderias with baked goods and early morning coffee. Awesome locals that were very friendly and helpful. Exceeded all our expectations.
It’s probably one of the best places in the world (and I traveled to 60+ countries). Definitely for travelers who like wild life, not for parties. I enjoyed beach walks, hikes, tours to the nature (volcanos, snorkeling, seeing penguins and sea lions, giant turtles). There are few restaurants on the beach but I also tried some local places where for 3,5$ you can get a delicious meal with grilled shrimps and rice!
We enjoyed the different activities and places to visit in Isabela, I think the Sierra Negra Volcano, and the tintoreras tour are the best. Taxis used to charge much more than in Santa Cruz since they charge by people, not by ride.
Loved how relaxed the pace of life was. A highpoint was the availability of good inexpensive food. For an excellent quality restaurant, el cafetal was great! The beach and ocean views from our hotel were the best. We loved snorkeling at Concha Perla. We enjoyed a couple of tours and were able to see so many beautiful sea animals.
